Lindy Lou’s interest in yoga began in 2005 when she spent 3 months living and travelling through India. Lindy had been carrying a backpack for months and had significant pain in her neck. She visited a yoga centre and was taught some simple stretches to help with this. She then began her yoga practise and the pain went away. This was Lindy’s first taste of how beneficial yoga could be. It wasn’t until 2 years later that she turned again to yoga, but this time for it’s spiritual aspects.
Lindy has never looked back and knew within the first couple of years of practising that she wanted to be a teacher. Over this time she has experienced many different styles of yoga including Hatha, Vinyassa, Ashtanga, Restorative and Yin. Lindy completed her teacher training in Thailand where she spent 3 months living in a yoga centre, and was taught the 9 aspects of yoga which include; Hatha (postures), Pranayama (breathing), Mantra (chanting), Raja (meditation).
Lindy teaches Hatha Yoga influenced by Chakra Yoga which involves the Chakras (energy centres) in the body. This is based around the lineage of Swami Gitananda, in Pondicherry, India. Lindy also practises at the Satyananda ashrams in Australia, enjoys regular Kirtan, and is trained in Restorative Yoga.
Lindy’s approach to teaching is to create a calm and safe environment for students to connect to their breath, to invoke the union of body, mind & spirit.
You can find Lindy Lou’s Hatha Yoga class upstairs at the Byron Bay Surf Club on Tuesday mornings from 8 – 9:30am and her Slow & Gentle class on Tuesday mornings from 10 – 11:30am. Lindy Lou is also available for private yoga classes
